At last...an affordable ukulele course that won’t leave you frustrated and confused!

Your frustration ends here. Let’s set you up for success.

You want to play the ukulele, but you’re getting stuck.
Do any of these ring true for you?

  • You’re overwhelmed sorting through all the Youtube videos online - they move too quickly or you don’t have the techniques down yet.
  • You don’t really read sheet music, and the tricks you’ve learned online aren’t helping.
  • You’ve been able to teach yourself some things, but you’re struggling to get the hang of strumming patterns or feel comfortable playing for your family and friends.
  • You know that learning a song takes practice, but you really just want to be able to play a song right away.
You’re not alone. I’ve seen this before.

What I’ve noticed is that while there are TONS of resources out there on how to teach yourself to play the ukulele, attempting it often gets people really frustrated. Maybe it’s because they’ve never played an instrument before, or because they haven’t mastered some of the basics yet (like strumming, or certain chord positions, or holding the instrument).

To move from confusion to confidence as a ukulele player, the first step is learning how to practice, which is truly a skill in itself. Next, you’ll need a road map that blocks your learning into bite-sized pieces. Until you’ve got some basic chords under your belt, can tune or string your instrument with confidence, know what to do with a chord chart and can understand some of the basics of strumming and theory, you’re going to struggle to progress as a player.

The good news is, when you have a clear and coherent set of lessons, learning the ukulele can truly be as easy and FUN as you thought it would be!

Imagine…
  • Someone hands you a piece of sheet music and you can grab your ukulele and strum along
  • You can play along with a group or follow along with a Youtube video with confidence
  • You can sing and play “Happy Birthday” or your favorite holiday tune at a family gathering

"You're a fabulous teacher and encourager." - group ukulele student

So who am I, and how did I learn this stuff?

Hi, I’m Ross Malcolm Boyd, and I help aspiring ukulele players move from confusion to confidence so they can achieve their ukulele dreams!

I’ve been playing music for almost twenty-five years. I started out on piano at about 16 (since my mom could trade her graphic design skills for free lessons) and guitar (since my parents had an old guitar lying around the house), and I when I got frustrated that I couldn’t yet play some of the fancy solos I was hearing on the radio, I started composing my own music.

I began teaching guitar and piano at age 20, and I’ve made my living at least part-time as an educator since then. I’m known for my friendly and approachable teaching style, and I teach students from 5 up to 80+ in private and group settings, both online and in person. I also teach songwriting and music theory, and I’ve done teaching artist work in classrooms too. I'm currently completing my music education certification.

I’ve dabbled with lots of other instruments, and in 2014 I purchased a beautiful tenor ukulele, beginning my love affair with the instrument. Since then I’ve been teaching, performing and composing on the ukulele in earnest. Since 2017, I’ve taught ukulele classes to older adults, and my first eight week program inspired an all-ages group class, online Zoom weekly sessions, as well as this ukulele course.

My favorite thing to do is to teach music to people for free or cheap, because music is awesome and the world deserves music! I’m thrilled to finally release this ukulele course, which is based on years of group and private lessons and more than twenty years of teaching experience.

“I enjoyed his presentation! He makes songwriting approachable and fun.” - Marianne Vitale, Programs and Special Events Coordinator at Orange County Library System

This course is for you if any of these apply…
  • You’ve never played a ukulele before or your skills are rusty
  • You’ve taught yourself with Youtube videos online & you’re ready to take the next step to gain more confidence as a player
  • You’ve watched lots of tutorials, but you just haven’t clicked with the style of anyone you’ve found online.
  • Someone gave you a ukulele and it’s been collecting dust on a shelf.
  • You’re ready for someone to slow things down, dig a little deeper and make learning to play easier and fun!
This course is NOT for you if…
  • You’re an advanced ukulele player: this course is for beginner and early intermediate students
  • You aren’t ready to set aside time to play the ukulele.
  • You’re a young child taking the course without an adult - this course is designed for adults and teens, so it may not be the right fit for younger children flying solo.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the course start and finish?
The course starts now and never ends! It is a completely self-paced online course - you decide when you start and when you finish. Many students focus on one chapter each week, in which case it might take you eight weeks to complete the course, but you'll have lifetime access and can work at your own pace and return to review the materials as often as you like.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
What if I am unhappy with the course?
We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 14 days and we will give you a full refund.
This course sounds great, but how do I know it will be a great fit for me?
Great question. The truth is, the results you get out of any program depend on how much you're willing to commit, so without some dedicated practice time, you won’t see much improvement. But I’ve taught dozens of students like you over the years, and this course has been shaped by their questions, their challenges and their feedback. You’ll have me with you, cheering you on and encouraging you in each video, and you’ll have chances to ask your questions of me and your fellow students along the way.
What if I'm not sure I can afford it?
I know cost can be a major consideration. And if it is for you, keep in mind that this is the best time to purchase this course. There are other options out there, but if you’re looking for a friendly and approachable instructor who’ll give you a ton of value and support along the way, it’s time to stop searching for the right free resource and get a comprehensive course that will teach you everything you need to know to play with confidence.
What if I'm too busy?
That’s a great question! Since all of the videos are pre-recorded, you can watch and learn on your own time. If you’ve got a vacation coming up, or you’ve got a health challenge to navigate, no worries! Go ahead and lock in your purchase now, and the course will be here for you whenever you’re ready to start or continue with it. As long as you can devote some time to learning in the future (you’ll see progress even if you practice for 5-10 minutes per day!), this is an excellent investment.
Is there a payment plan?
Yes! This course is $79.99 if paid in full, or 2 monthly payments of $44.99.
I've done other programs like this before, and it wasn't a good fit. How will this be different?
If you’ve been piecing together lessons on Youtube or have tried learning from another instructor, you might be frustrated, feeling like they’re going too quickly or making assumptions about what you already know. I know that’s really frustrating. This will be very different, because I designed this as a fully comprehensive course that will take you where you are (even if you haven’t purchased your ukulele yet) and break down your lessons into bite-sized pieces. You’ll be able to do the songs slowly at first, focus on hand position and strumming patterns, get more confident at tuning...all of the things that can be frustrating without the right teacher and program to guide you.
How much access do I get to you?
You’ll get videos of all of your lessons, which can be downloaded to your mobile device or watched on your computer, and you’ll get 3 monthly Q & As with the opportunity to ask me questions ahead of time. I’m also available to answer questions in our Facebook group if you have additional questions along the way.
Is there a refund policy?
Yes, there’s a 14 day, no questions asked guarantee. Unfortunately we can’t offer refunds after 14 days.
What if I have other questions?
If you’re still on the fence, I’ll be happy to answer any remaining questions - just email me at [email protected].
Can I give this course as a gift?
Yes, you can give this course as a gift if you’d like to. We offer gift certificates for both private lessons and for this course. Email [email protected] to make the arrangements.
